Social Enterprise Day: Bambuhay PH

Since today is Social Enterprise Day, I thought of featuring a local enterprise that I am most proud of, Bambuhay.

Bambuhay is a social enterprise that is leading the way in sustainable business creating inclusive and eco-friendly solutions to heal the planet and build opportunities by empowering marginalized communities.

I met their Founder and Chief Executive Farmer, Mark Gersava at a workshop at Acceler8 more than a year ago. They were still starting that time. He was really passionate about his advocacy. He explained to me that instead of providing food for the less fortunate, he wants to provide livelihood. He wants to give them a more sustainable living.

I also admire his grit. Even though he faced rejection from a major coffee shop company, he came back stronger. He was able to partner with not one, but 6 beverage companies to date.

He also represented the Philippines in various competitions and fora for social entrepreneurship.

Mark and Bambuhay, made a huge impact on the No Plastic Straw Movement locally.

In our own cafe, we use their straw for dine in customers. They inspired us to take a stand and be part of the solution.
